From the Heart:
The Brightest Light of All

By Rosemary Sinclair

Rosemary SinclairSince the dawn of civilization, mankind has utilized light in every aspect of survival. Our primitive ancestors measured time and created calendars based on the rising and setting of the sun. As civilization advanced, we harnessed electricity, a development that changed the world. Light was now available 24 hours a day. Many kinds of manual labor
would now be done by machines, freeing up time for people to enjoy the many amenities and opportunities for leisure that electricity made possible.

In the town where I grew up, the high school and college I attended were several miles from my home, so that extra-curricula activities often kept me out after dark. The long walk from the bus stop took me home along a dimly lit narrow sidewalk bounded on one side by tall hedges that look menacing in the dark. On the other side I was hemmed by the street from which strange men often tried to coax me into their vehicles. At those times I felt trapped and threatened.

When I could see the glowing porch light of our house my fear would begin to subside. I knew that Mother waited at the door to usher me inside, or if need be, one of my strong brothers could leap from the doorway to rescue me. I remember how that porch light beckoned me to safety, lending purpose to my footsteps and imparting a feeling of warmth and courage in my heart.

Now as a grown woman, I rejoice in the deeper warmth of Christ’s salvation and protection that grows brighter and brighter as I study God’s word. God tells us that in spite of our sinful nature, we can harness the most brilliant light source known to man, the transforming light of His love and forgiveness that shines on us through His son Jesus Christ.

The Brightest Light of All

God’s son shines His love
And His Mercy on me
He forgive all my sins
And cast them away
For mankind to be free
And God’s son lights the path
To the city of gold
Where there is no death
And one never grows old.

Your word is a lamp unto my feet and a light to my path. Psalm 119:105
