Asking for Help Can Change Your Life

As a certified fitness professional I am constantly emphasizing to my clients and those interested in getting fit and healthy to ask for help. I always ask, “If you had a leak in your roof, wouldn’t you call a roofing expert to fix it? Well that’s exactly what you should do when it comes to learning the proper way to work out and eat healthier.

For my client, Nina, it was no different. As a stay at home wife and mother of two she worked out regularly and watched what she ate. She contacted me to inquire about my services for her husband. Nina knew that starting a workout program might be a good idea for her husband, a successful Wall Street banking executive. We scheduled a consultation and I agreed to meet with both of them to discuss how I could assist in getting her husband on the road to good health. In our initial meeting that was attended by their family physician, I learned about some of her husband’s physical challenges as a result of previous injuries. And it was during this meeting that I learned her husband was a 9/11 survivor. I knew that his road to wellness might not be an easy one, but with his commitment, achieving his goals was absolutely possible. What no one in the room knew at the time, however, was just how much my fitness regimen would transform both husband and wife.

Although Nina had been working out consistently for a long tim, there were still some areas that she felt could use some fine tuning. After our first few workouts in her home-gym, Nina and I both realized that although she had been working out on her own, she had been performing several of the exercises incorrectly. Also, what she thought was eating right, was actually all wrong. As a result of what she believed to be a healthy cutting back on calories to maintain her weight, she had pushed her body into starvation mode. She was frequently exhausted and felt drained instead of feeling energized after completing a workout. Nina modified her eating and learned how to eat more frequent portion-controlled meals. During the course of our workouts I was able to push and challenge her by making sure her last set of repetitions were as perfect as her first. She began to see amazing results, achieving what most believe to be impossible after two children; a perfect set of six-pack abs. In addition, she had more energy than ever.
Even more amazing were the results that her husband achieved. After just a few months of working out, there was a noticeable increased zest for life, accompanied by a significant weight loss. He felt more capable and confident to deal with the losses he had experienced, as well as the inevitable challenges that he faced in a demanding career. And most importantly to him, he was able to participate in all types of activities with his family.

Now three years later, this couple are still consistent clients not to mention great friends. They have graciously told me, time and time again, that I changed their lives and consider me their angel. For me it is a privilege and an honor that I do not take for granted. Lives can change, if only you ask for help.

“For Everyone, who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.” Luke 11:10
