The Growth in Black Buying Power Continues to Outpace the Rest of Nation Black purchasing power in 2000 is estimated at $543 billion. Total income after taxes, of Black consumers, has grown 54% since 1990. Black Americans, if a nation, would be the 15th largest economy in the world—just behind Russia.
Blacks Are Receptive to Targeted Marketing Campaigns African American consumers consistently reward at the checkout those corporations that are sensitive to and supportive of their communities and culture.
Black Consumers Are Aggressive Shoppers Blacks spend 78% of their disposable household incomes. For several product categories they outspend other households disproportionately including in areas such as: on-line services, telephone services apparel, beverages, household furnishings, and food, personal care products and services, cable TV.
Black Consumers Are Discriminating Shoppers Black consumers are more likely than the general population to talk to sales representatives, call companies for product information and browse stores before purchasing an item. The Positive Community is the perfect environment for establishing a rapport with these tough, but loyal consumers.
Black Consumers are jumping on-line in record numbers A survey by Cyber Dialogue counts close to five million Black internet users and according to a recent report by the Chicago based Target Market News, Blacks spent $1.3 billion on computer related products, which was a 143 percent increase over the previous year. The Positive Community reaches these consumers. The Positive Community website (positivecommunity.com) had 59,000 hits in September 2001.
70% of African American churchgoers are women. In 2000, Black women represented 45% of the income earned by all Black households for a total of $244 billion
In the New York area the Baptist Ministers Conference alone has 575 member churches representing more than 800,000 communicants. The Black Ministers Council of New Jersey with 631 churches represents 500,000 people. Each of these organizations works closely with The Positive Community.
