From the Heart:
The Evidence of Christ’s Transforming Love
By Rosemary Sinclair
The focal point of Christianity, the phenomenon written, preached about and experienced by every born again believer, is the power of Christ’s transforming
love. I am seeing that Christ’s love opens doors, enhances our love for each other, and adds so much enjoyment to our lives since Paul and I invited Jesus to be the master of our home.
For so many years we were content for it to be “just us,” living in relative isolation in our rural home. On weekends and holidays we preferred each other’s companionship. Gracefully we declined social invitations from family and friends. Our world revolved mainly around our home and our mutual concern for each other. But as our thirty-fourth wedding anniversary approaches, we realize the value of being more involved with the people we love.
When Paul and I were courting, I was well aware that he was the “strong, silent,” type, somewhat introverted, and not particularly interested in small talk, or what he considered frivolous socializing. Parties and social climbing were just not his thing. Making stilted conversation at family gatherings was totally boring for him.
Because I loved him so much, I went along with a lifestyle that somewhat excluded the sharing of our beautiful home and prevented me from expressing the hospitality I so longed to offer to my friends. Two events changed things and freed me to become the welcoming hostess I had always desired to be.
When our two grandsons were born, one in Indiana to our son, and one in New Jersey to our daughter we became as “sappy,” as friends of ours, who were proud grandparents, showing off photographs and bragging about each new endeavor of the “little ones.” E-mails, letters and long distance conversations keep us apprised of their activities and accomplishments. We now have a closer relationship with their parents as a result.
We were also blessed to become part of a fellowship of loving believers who reflect the sweetness and humility of our pastor. They are non-judgmental and unpretentious. Our pastor is a dear friend to both of us, but especially to Paul. It is not uncommon for our pastor, or church members to “drop by.” It amazes me to see the cordiality my husband now possesses. It is also heart warming to be more involved with family activities.
At Christmas we hosted a holiday party for Paul’s six aunts and uncles who live near us. I was able to cook, bake and decorate to my heart’s content. It was a time of laughter and joy, experiencing the company of these good people as we celebrated Christmas together.
Now our home is a place where the door opens to those who wish to share in the blessings that are evidence of God’s love for us. How much more proof of God’s transforming love could I possibly need? No more than I’ve already seen, I’d say.
When Jesus Lives in a Home
When Jesus lives in a home
That home is one
Where love and warmth reside
That house is one
Whose doors are open wide
That home is a dwelling place
With blessedness to share
Because the risen Son of God
Is alive and living there
