The Fitness Doctor
Kahlil Carmichael, C.P.T

If you are like a lot of people you have asked yourself, “Can I afford to hire a personal trainer?” My simple answer is you can‘t afford not to. Our communities spend millions on products and services that really do nothing except, camouflage the serious issues that are destroying us internally. We over spend on clothing trying to overcompensate for the reality that we are really not happy with our physical body image.

Millions are spent on hair weaves, make up and a countless supply of other beauty products. Why not redirect those funds into something that pays for itself over and over again. A qualified fitness professional can not only help you lose weight and get in shape, but guide you to a fulfilling life of health and wellness by teaching you how to stay committed to exercise and proper nutrition.

Caressa, one of the clients that I have had the privilege to assist in transforming her body and life through exercise and proper nutrition, has realized the value in hiring a qualified fitness professional. She has often said even while sweating it out during a challenging run on the treadmill that my services have been worth every penny. Having lost weight and increased her energy she says, “I just feel better all around.”

Caressa, who is a computer technician, decided to invest in a trainer after years of not using a gym membership that she paid for monthly. “I took the money I was spending on things I really didn’t need and hired you. The rest is history.”

As a fitness professional, I meet hundreds of individuals each year that have made the decision to take control of their health and commit to an exercise program. Hiring a fitness professional is a great way to get started. Here are some essential things you should look for to make sure you get the most for your most important investment, yourself.

Make Sure Your Trainer Has the Proper Credentials. Your prospective trainer should have current certifications in their field as well as in CPR/First Aid. In addition they should be insured. Some leading certifications are American Council on Exercise (A.C.E) International Sports Science Association (I.S.S.A) and the National College of Sports Medicine (NCSM).

Are You Compatible With Them? One myth I sometimes hear is that you should hate your trainer. That is ridiculous. You should enjoy your trainer on a professional level because you will be spending so much time together. You are not going to want to be around someone you hate!

Check References. A qualified fitness professional should have at least 10 people that can attest to the fact that he or she can in fact help you achieve your goals.
