Multitasking in the New Millennium
By Rosemary Sinclair

Rosemary Sinclair Multitasking. In this age of fast-paced living, we all do it. We see it all around us. People utilize their cell phones as they shop, drive or do household chores. How often do we try to hold a telephone conversation with someone who is clanking dishes, vacuuming, or even showering? And then there are the annoying call waiting interruptions. What could be more important than the conversation already in progress? Sometimes I am a little offended that someone else’s conversation is more desirable, while I’m put on hold.

I must shamefully confess, however, that as much as I am critical of the behavior of others as they rush around trying to accomplish multiple tasks all at once, I am guilty of the same thing. I have even subjected my Savior to prayers as I multitasked.

For instance, this Thanksgiving Paul and I were doing some things around the house before we headed out to dinner. There hadn’t been time to get my hair done so I was rushing to get to it together myself. As I sat under the dryer I realized I hadn’t taken time to have a private talk with my Lord. Concern for my young nephew wh was running a high fever had burdened me since the day before and I worried that I was doing too litte too late in turning to God for help. So, knowing that I had twenty minutes under the dryer to make my appeal, I poured out my heart to Jesus, pleading for the youngster’s recovery. “Could that possibly be enough?” I thought. But a feeling of peace soon erased my doubts. I finished getting ready, and feeling confident to be in a celebratory mood, I grabbed my handbag, put a smile on my face, and left with my husband to enjoy a sumptuous meal.

I should not have been surprised the next morning, to hear a little voice on the telephone telling me that he felt better and was enjoying the cookies I had sent earlier in the week. I should not have been surprised because this was just one more time when Christ Jesus had wrought a miracle in my life.

How can He continue to bless us when we slight Him, time after time? The answer is so simple, yet many who are searching for life’s meaning cannot comprehend it. The answer is love – Christ’s love – so great and complete and more encompassing than we can understand.

The Greatest Love of All

Sometimes I get so busy
I leave my Lord behind
Yet He’s loving and forgiving
And doesn’t seem to mind
Even when I put Him in a time slot
Pushed aside with all the rest
He loves and forgives me
As His miracles attest.
