The Fitness Doctor
Kahlil Carmichael, C.P.T

God is doing something new. I can feel it in the atmosphere. Something fresh is about to spring up and spring forth! Can you feel it? As we complete the season of Lent or time of repentance, I pray that you have made the most of your season, and examined the areas of your life that continue to hold you back. Have you let go of unforgiveness? How about renouncing bad habits, like smoking, gossiping and, oh yes, let’s not forget the sin of gluttony! I have, and I thank God for His Grace and my life and I eagerly anticipate the new thing that He is doing in my life. For these reasons, this is my favorite time of year.

My clients seem to enjoy this time also. They request more challenging workouts to get ready for summer. I receive a lot of phone calls from well meaning individuals who have yet to make good on their January New Year’s resolution to start an exercise program. As I have often shared with them, it is never too late to make a fresh start.

As we celebrate the Resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, maybe now is the time to resurrect some things in our own lives. I have recently decided to resurrect an old dream of mine to run the New York City Marathon. I will begin training for it this season.

What will you resurrect that has died in your life? Maybe an old dream that you thought you would not see again? Perhaps the thought of being fit and conquering obesity once and for all? Or maybe eating healthier foods that sustain life, not destroy it?

Here are some ways to do it:

Renounce: At some point you have to not only stop doing the things that are no longer getting you results, but you have to actually make a declaration renouncing such things.

Regroup: After figuring out what you no longer want in your life, you simply must regroup. Take the time to formulate an action plan and see what is needed to see it through.

Renew: The Bible says that we are to be transformed by the renewing of our minds. Each day just as you feed your physical body and replenish it, you must make sure your mind is being fed the right thoughts and beliefs. Cancel out worry, doubt, fear, and negative thinking.

Remember, it’s never too late to live your best life!
