My View: The Jeremiah Wright Controversy
By Rev. Theresa Nance

Theresa NanceIt's spring and a young man's fancy turns to, well, whatever it turns to—love supposedly. But as we march into spring I'm mighty perplexed about the controversy swirling around Barak Obama and his former pastor, the Rev. Dr. Jeremiah Wright.
It's spring and folks are yet talking about what Dr. Wright said in his pulpit somewhere in time. But most importantly, I'm equally perplexed about the fact that Obama's detractors want to make him wear, so to speak, the coat of so-called wrongness that Wright himself has donned. Barak Obama is not responsible for what trickles from that pulpit than other clerics' members are responsible for what their pastors say.

Who do these nay sayers think they are? Obama should have left the church? Oh? Really? Why?

Obviously those who are trying to make political hay out of Pastor Wright comparing and contrasting Hillary Clinton's walk through this lowland of sorrow to what Obama had to face as a black man was just too much.
Well, that's just too bad. Truthfully, I take issue with Wright saying, "God damn America," even though he wasn't even using that phrase in a profane way, I believe. Wright can surely defend himself but I think he was saying, God chastise America for its legacy of wrongdoing.

But here's the real deal, if we're gonna tell the truth and shame the devil. This black young man, Baraka Obama has defied the odds makers. He has baffled the pundits. He has annoyed his adversaries. He has soared in the eyes of his supporters and some folks are just m-a-d MAD! Can we have some honesty in the game for a change? Please!
Those blacks who support Hillary Clinton are free to do just that. The last time I looked this was still America.

What I don't understand is how anyone, black, white or other, can sit back and watch the dirty tricks being brought to this equation and remain silent. Woe to those who are at ease in Zion! I didn't say that, the prophet Amos did. The cable television networks have gone bunkers as the nightly and daytime commentators attempt to make Wright the poster pastor for what ails Obama's campaign. Shame on them!

Of course some folks want to win at any cost. And, if that is indeed the case, winning on the back of a pastor who has dedicated his entire life to the cause of Christ is just wrong. Now, some of the playa haters who, unlike Wright, never served in the Armed Forces a day in their lives, but have become armchair generals while hiding behind countless deferments when they could have served in the Viet Nam war, take Wright to task for words. Yes, some of them are ugly words, but who could honestly challenge his love for his country? He put his very life on the line. Did they? Heck no! Don't make Obama wear the scarlet letter, so to speak, for simply loving a man who apparently was the father he himself never had.
Many look at the ugliness of life and want others to pretend the stench isn't there. It's there. Let us do what we can to eradicate the odor of racism, the pungent smell of sexism and the putrid taste of jealousy.
